Apple is opening a large data center in Eastmark. The neighborhood’s Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport has big growth plans. ASU’s Polytechnic campus is bringing a younger crowd to the area. Golf courses are aplenty. And many big recreational areas are nearby. Millennials, families and retirees all flock to this area.

The roads through these Southeast Mesa neighborhoods are popular with cyclists because they are flat and have bike lanes. San Tan Mountain Regional Park lies not far to the south, with more than 10,000 acres and myriad maintained trails. Only a few miles to the north, Usery Mountain Regional Park includes about 30 miles of trails. An outdoor workout area and scenic wind caves make it a popular hiking destination. Usery Road is a favorite of road cyclists with an easy-breezy four-mile descent. But it has a challenging four-mile ascent on an out-and-back ride.
